Dershowitz's 'Wisdom of the wise'

Alan Dershowitz, a long-standing Constitutional lawyer playing defense for Trump in the Trump Senate impeachment trial came down on the side of the 'wisdom of the wise.' The 'wisdom of the wise' does not require truth, ethics, or integrity, you just have to win--at all costs! So he actually put his Attorney ethics aside and made an argument that denies God and truth. In their place, he made a case for lawless and unrestrained presidential power. He seems to be making that case only for Trump though--a celebrity who became president. There is hardly any reason to believe that he would take such a stand for some other individuals if they became president. Some of his colleagues have referred to his views on the impeachment trial as crazy and irresponsible.
But what he was arguing is what the Bible calls the 'Wisdom of the wise.' The wisdom of the wise does not have to be rooted in truth, fact, or integrity. It mostly serves selfish and worldly purposes, like the cause he is speaking for on behalf of Donald Trump.

The wisdom of the wise, the type championed by Alan Dershowitz is self-serving and opposed to Godly wisdom. Under this kind of wisdom, he can make a claim one day and go on TV the next to deny it or rephrase it. And most popular for people like him, blame the press for his shifting positions even when video clips show he said exactly what has been reported. A double case of errant wisdom?

"But the wisdom that is from above is first pure ... without partiality, and without hypocrisy." James 3:17.

God has a remedy for the shameless and boldface falsehoods and dismissal of fact and truth perpetrated by people in high places, and so the Word says in 1 Corinthians 1:19:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate." It may not always come fast, but that is the destination of such wisdom.
However, while it serves their purpose, they put their intellect to work in an ungodly manner, almost always for immediate and personal gains, for themselves and for those around them. Such efforts always bring about ungodly results procured in ungodly ways!

The Separation!

The Bible warns that perilous times shall come--2 Timothy 3:1-5. Well, they are here. Let's pay attention to what Scripture says about this.
Every line in verses one to five contains words describing people who have separated self from God. Words like boastful, proud, unholy, slanderous, conceited, treacherous, and phrases, like lovers of themselves, lovers of money, without self-control, and lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God (verses 1-4) all tell a story that is visibly on the surface today. But even more important is what verse 5 says: Having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. This is the point of separation and God will use it to effect, not because God wants us to be divided but because, He will separate truth from falsehood, and fact from fiction.

But should you have a 'grace defense,' this is what the Word says:
"What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! ..." -Romans 6:1-2. Scripture further says in Isaiah 26:10:
"But when grace is shown to the wicked,
 they do not learn righteousness;
even in a land of uprightness they go on
doing evil and do not regard the majesty of the
      LORD."
That is the problem, "they do not regard the majesty of the LORD." The separation will come with regret and a lot of sorrow for those who trample the Sovereign and everlasting name of God--a most serious matter!

A Year of Grace And Favor!

Welcome to 2020, a year of grace and favor. But a year of grace and favor for who?
For those who understand God's role in their lives, seeing what amounts to grace and favor is not so difficult to understand. When holes get closed for example, which used to prevent blessings from staying around, the one who has believed will know for certain that The Lord God has been at work on his behalf. When certain avenues suddenly open up that make for a blessed movement forward, the child of God understands that to be the Lord at work on his or her behalf. It is not difficult to see when God is in the equation for the person.

On the other hand however, outside of Christ, the glory is given to human efforts and connections for successes and victories achieved. But God's Word tells us what He says about that.
"I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." -- Isaiah 42:8. Is this for one situation or for all? A Christian person will understand that this is for all situations.

The separation is coming however. You can call it a movement, where the one who has believed will be able to declare publicly how the grace of God has been at work in his/her life and what favors they believe to be in their lives therefrom. God desires more than 'I think God did it.' The grace for that work is already in motion, and will achieve its purpose. And 2020 may very well be a remarkable starting point.
